allotment day

We're spending a couple of days at the allotment this week, catching up with the hundreds of little jobs that were ignored through the sunshine, because really, no one is supposed to work when it is sunny, are they?

This year has been amazing for flowers, berries and veg on our plot, and we are seeing so many bees at the moment (50% of growing space is covered with self seeded borage which may have something to do with the sheer numbers of bees - that borage gets everywhere) especially early in the morning on a sunny day.

It all looks pretty lovely - which is why I never take my camera...

Today I had a brain wave though, look, I've scanned in some beans to show you instead.  And I've scanned in a courgette too, which slightly messed up the focus.  So now you know what beans look llike, but are still non the wiser as to the look of our vast borage plantation.  Oh, well...

summer flowers

Busy squeezing the last few bits of summer out of the year at the moment and now that there has been some real sun (did you notice it yesterday?) the flowers have really got going - nothing fancy this year as there hasn't been much chance to potter and plant but a couple of sunflowers made it and all the self-seeders are going for it now...

Finally a few bunches of sweet peas have been picked and the Borage has seeded everywhere (really everywhere - it is officially a weed) and is now covered with bees.

art trail fun & pink drinks...

I  had such a lovely time Art Trailing, catching up with people, seeing friends new work and visiting some fantastic venues with my children (although by the end of my third visit to the 'Wonky House' I felt I had 'done' it...)

Photos will have to wait for another day though because most excitingly of all, my elder flower cordial IS pink...

...what could be more pleasing??  I can't think of much...

Another favourite of ours is to freeze Borage flowers inside ice cubes, the sweetest ice cube you can imagine, and when these are in season this year they will be the perfect addition to the pink Elder flower cordial to create the girliest summer drink possible - contented sigh -
